What Happens at Your Pet’s Annual Wellness Visit at Pilina Vet

At Pilina Vet, we treat every pet like our own family member and every client like a true partner in their pet’s care. Our annual wellness appointments are relaxed, thorough, and designed to catch little problems before they become big ones—all while keeping stress to an absolute minimum.

Here’s exactly what you and your pet can expect when you come in for your yearly appointment.

Step 1: Comprehensive Exam — Nose to Tail

The purpose of a full exam is to screen for any abnormalities, including those that even the most attentive families might not notice at home.

  • Eyes & Ears: Checking for debris, inflammation, infection, or other early signs of concern.
  • Mouth: Since it’s hard to see inside the mouth day to day, the doctor screens for dental disease, cracked teeth, oral masses, or other issues.
  • Skin & Coat: Looking for hidden fleas, skin irritation, masses, or mats that may be uncomfortable.
  • Abdomen: Gently palpating to assess lymph nodes, identify lumps, or detect unexpected items that may have been ingested. We also review body condition and nutrition.
  • Tail Area: Ensuring anal glands and surrounding tissue look healthy and comfortable.

Step 2: Screening Heart & Lung Function

Your veterinarians are trained to recognize a healthy heart and lung soundtrack, and to quickly identify any sounds which have poor health implications. Most patients sound great — but if something is off, we’re able to take swift, well-guided action. Because health can shift as dogs and cats age, this screening is an essential part of every annual visit.

Step 3: Crafting a Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on the exam findings and your animal family member’s lifestyle, the doctor will recommend the ideal annual vaccines, diagnostic tests, and preventive care. Together, we review the plan so you can make confident, well-informed decisions. Once you give the go-ahead, our team gets started right away.

Step 4: Getting Your Animal Family Member All Set

After treatments are complete, we’ll schedule next year’s visit and take care of checkout right in the exam room. You’ll head out with a helpful goodie bag — and your ‘ohana will be all set for the year ahead.
